Love: Day 7
Let the gift-giving begin. We have gift exchanges, gift bags, and gift boxes. All kinds of things are gift oriented this time of year. This week, we have looked at a number of scriptures that tell us of the greatness of God’s love which He gave us. We see this great love through receiving it and passing it on. Jesus’ command to us is simple and straight forward here-we are to love each other just like He has loved us. How did Jesus love us? He laid down His life for us. Chances are, you will not have to die for anyone in our church family in the coming year. So, how do we love like Jesus? We love like Jesus did and commands us to do by sacrificing our time, talent and treasure for our brothers and sisters in Christ every single day. We give up these things in love just as Jesus gave up His life in love for us. We can look to times when we gave of ourselves for others to know that we succeeding at obeying Jesus’ command. Love is a gift. It is of no value to anyone unless it is given. God has given His love, Jesus. Let us commit to loving one another in the coming year by laying down our lives for each other.
Prayer focus: Thank God for His gift of love to us, His Son Jesus Christ. Ask God to help you show your love to the Christians around you beginning today.
